It was a short novel, but hard to read. Heinrich Boll mainly intended to provoke the influence of media - here, newspaper - that it manipulates one's image so as much to damage the life, or sometimes, like in the novel, ruin irrevocably. Media, as well known, is a window of the writer's perspective that pretty much contains his/her own thoughts, results in the variation of its context through which part he/she focuses more or not.
